Check Brake Linings Bmw E39

Just changed the back brake pads on my 530D (2000 Year) The 'check brake linings' indicator needs to be reset. I have tried turning the ignition to position 2 and leaving for 45 seconds but this has not worked. Does it have to be reset by the diag port?

BMW uses little electromechanical sensors embedded in the rear passenger and front drivers brake pad. These are usually fool-proof and normally don't false alarm so I would say that either: 1. One of the monitored pads is truly worn down to the sensor 2.
