Securing the Box to the Joist
For heavy fixtures like chandeliers or large ceiling fans, the box cannot simply sit in the drywall. The weight must be transferred to the structural framing of the house. If the existing box is insufficient, you must cut a hole in the drywall to access the wall stud or ceiling joist. The fixture box must be physically screwed to the side of the joist to prevent sagging.
Connecting the Wires and Finalizing
