The Monopoly Toy Story rules retain the core gameplay of the classic Monopoly, but with a Toy Story twist. The game board features locations from the films, such as Andy's Room, Al's Truck Stop, and the Pizza Planet. Instead of traditional Monopoly pieces, you'll be moving around the board as iconic Toy Story characters like Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and Mr. Potato Head.

Setting Up the Game

The setup of Monopoly Toy Story is similar to the original. Each player chooses a character token and places it on the 'GO' space. The banker gives each player $1,500 in Monopoly money, and the rest of the money is placed in the bank. The title deeds, chance cards, community chest cards, and the dice are also placed within reach.

One unique aspect of Monopoly Toy Story is the 'Toy Box' space. If a player lands on this space, they draw a 'Toy Box' card. These cards can have various effects, such as sending all other players' tokens to the 'GO' space or forcing all players to pay a 'Ransom' to the player who drew the card.

Each player chooses a character token to represent them throughout the game. The available tokens are Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, and Slinky Dog. These tokens add a fun, interactive element to the game, as they are all based on beloved Toy Story characters.

Each character token also has a special ability that can be used once per game. For example, Woody can force another player to move their token to any space on the board, while Buzz can swap places with another player's token. These abilities can add an extra layer of strategy to the game.

Location Spaces

The Monopoly Toy Story game board features locations from the Toy Story films instead of the traditional streets and avenues. These locations are grouped into color-coded 'Toy Story' sets, similar to the traditional Monopoly properties. The sets are 'Andy's Room', 'Al's Truck Stop', and 'Pizza Planet'.

Each location space has a unique rent value, which increases as players build houses and hotels on the properties. The most expensive property in the game is 'Zurg's Tower', which is part of the 'Pizza Planet' set. The rules for buying, selling, and trading properties are the same as in the original Monopoly game.

The real story behind Monopoly

The objective of Monopoly Toy Story is the same as the original - to drive your opponents into bankruptcy while amassing a fortune for yourself. You do this by buying, selling, and trading properties, collecting rent from your opponents, and using your character's special ability strategically.

One unique aspect of Monopoly Toy Story is the 'You've Got a Friend in Me' card. If a player lands on the 'Chance' or 'Community Chest' space, they may draw this card. If they do, they can choose to give another player $500. This card encourages players to help each other out, adding a touch of Toy Story's themes of friendship and teamwork to the game.

Going to Jail

In Monopoly Toy Story, if a player lands on the 'Jail' space, they are sent to 'Sunnyside Daycare' instead. The rules for going to jail are the same as in the original Monopoly - a player must roll doubles on their next turn to get out of jail. However, if a player rolls doubles three times in a row, they are 'out of jail free' and can continue moving around the board.

While in 'Sunnyside Daycare', a player cannot collect rent or use their character's special ability. However, they can still buy, sell, and trade properties. If another player lands on the 'Get Out of Jail Free' space, they can choose to free a player from 'Sunnyside Daycare'.

In the spirit of Toy Story, the game encourages players to work together and have fun. The unique locations, character tokens, and cards all add to the enjoyment of the game. So, gather your friends and family, and get ready for a fun-filled game night with Monopoly Toy Story. Happy playing!
