Steering Through The Pandemic

Going beyond the physical parameters of urban design , concepts like 'flexibility', 'adaptability', 'accessibility', and most importantly 'resilience' come into the picture. Looking closely, one might attribute the existing urban city module as a cause for higher pandemic transmission rates which is a harsh reality.

Abstract Cities may face new pandemic threats due to the highly interconnected nature of urban areas, the encroachment on natural resources driven by rapid urbanization, and the adverse impacts of climate change on public health. Recent experiences with COVID-19 have yielded valuable lessons in urban planning, design , and management.
Building urban resilience
The study delves into whether critical infrastructure should be reallocated in the post- pandemic era, aiming to build urban resilience. Through expert questionnaires based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process and matrix statistical calculations, the true importance weights are derived.
Then, by examining the practices in different cities around the world, changes in the field of urban design and public space after the pandemic are discussed to support the answer to the issue above.
