Data collected at the morton arboretum show that this tree is invasive on the arboretum grounds. It can be much shorter and shrubbier under difficult growing conditions. More desirable species may be found using the search trees and plants page of the arboretum website. In this case, the split was severe and warranted removal of the tree as soon as possible.
