The BMW V12 LM was a racing car built for sports car racing in 1998. The car was built using a combination of Williams Racing chassis engineering and construction and a BMW powerplant. The car was the predecessor to the BMW V12 LMR, which debuted in 1999.
T he Japanese race car manufacturer Dome has been quite busy recently, completely modifying Team Goh's '99 BMW V12 LM. Major changes include a reworked front end incorporating brand new cooling architecture as well as a redesigned engine induction system. Team Goh was one of BMW's private entries who kept running the V12 LM in 1999 as well when the factory team upgraded into the V12 LMR and after a DNF at Le Mans they wanted a better car So what did they do? They called for Dome's services.
They would be tasked with upgrading this V12 LM for the 2000 racing season. This is how the Dome. As far as I know, the BMW V12 LM was the first sportscar built by Williams.
It was run by Gabriele Rafanelli at Le Mans in 1998; the V12 LMR of 1999/2000 was run by Charly Lamm's Schnitzer squad (to rather greater success). Domu and Team Gow modified the BMW V12 LM in several places for race use, installing a completely new cooling structure and redesigning the front end and engine injection system. Additionally, the aerodynamics have been revised to generate more downforce at the front. According to the manufacturer, the modified body reduces drag by 5% and increases downforce by 10%.
