Ever found yourself wishing you could create labels in Google Docs on your iPad to organize your documents more efficiently? You're not alone. While Google Docs on iPad doesn't offer the same level of customization as the desktop version, it's still possible to add labels to your documents using a workaround. Let's dive into how you can do this.

Before we begin, it's important to note that this method involves using the Google Docs app on your iPad in conjunction with the Google Drive app. This is because the Google Docs app doesn't support labels directly, but Google Drive does. So, let's get started.

Preparing Your Document in Google Docs
First, open the Google Docs app on your iPad and navigate to the document you want to label. Make sure your document is in the correct format, as this method works best with text-based documents.

Once you've ensured your document is ready, tap the three vertical dots (โฎ) in the top-right corner of your screen to open the document menu. From here, select 'Share & export' to proceed.
Sharing Your Document

In the 'Share with people and groups' section, tap the 'Add people' field and enter the email address 'drive@google.com'. This will share your document with Google Drive, which is where we'll be adding our labels.
After adding the email address, tap the 'Done' button in the top-right corner of your screen. You'll see a pop-up asking if you want to share the document with 'drive@google.com'. Tap 'Share' to confirm.
Exporting Your Document to Google Drive

Next, in the 'Share & export' menu, tap on 'Export' and select 'PDF' as the file format. This will export your document as a PDF, which can be labeled in Google Drive.
After exporting, you'll see a pop-up asking if you want to open the PDF in another app or save it to your iPad. Tap 'Save to Files' to save the PDF to your iPad's Files app.
Adding Labels in Google Drive

Now that you've exported your document as a PDF, it's time to add labels in Google Drive. Open the Google Drive app on your iPad and tap the '+' icon in the top-right corner of your screen to create a new folder.
Name your folder something relevant, like 'Documents with Labels', and tap 'Create' to confirm. This folder will help you keep track of your labeled documents.

Uploading Your Document to Google Drive
With your folder created, tap the '+' icon again and select 'Upload'. Navigate to the Files app on your iPad, find the PDF you exported earlier, and tap 'Upload' to add it to your Google Drive folder.
Once your PDF has finished uploading, tap on it to open it in the Google Drive app. Here, you'll see a menu bar at the bottom of your screen with several options. Tap the 'i' icon (Info) to view the document's details.
Adding a Label to Your Document
In the document details screen, tap the 'Add label' button at the bottom of your screen. This will open a menu where you can select an existing label or create a new one.
To create a new label, tap the '+' icon in the top-right corner of your screen. Name your label something descriptive, like 'Work' or 'Important', and tap 'Create' to confirm. Your new label will now be applied to your document.
And there you have it! You've successfully added a label to your document in Google Drive using your iPad. This method might seem a bit roundabout, but it's currently the best way to add labels to your documents in Google Docs on iPad. Happy labeling!
