The drain assembly consists of the drain body, a rubber gasket, a washer, and a nut.

• Channel-type pliers
• Screwdriver (flathead or Phillips, depending on your sink type)
• New drain assembly (ensure it's compatible with your sink)
• Plumber's putty or silicone caulk
• Rags or towels

Preparation: Drain the Drain

Before you start, ensure the area around the sink is clear and dry. Place a bucket underneath the P-trap to catch any water that may spill out. Using a wrench, loosen and remove the slip nut that connects the P-trap to the drain body. Once the nut is loose, you can remove the P-trap and allow any remaining water to drain into the bucket.

Removing the Old Drain Assembly

With the P-trap removed, you should now see the drain body. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen and remove the large nut that secures the drain body to the sink. You may need to use channel-type pliers to grip the nut if it's too tight. Once the nut is removed, you can lift out the drain body, along with the rubber gasket and washer.

Cleaning and Preparing the Sink

Remove any old plumber's putty or silicone caulk from the sink hole using a razor blade or utility knife. Clean the area thoroughly to ensure a good seal with the new drain assembly. If your sink has mounting screws, use a screwdriver to remove them and set them aside.

Installing the New Drain Assembly

Apply a small amount of plumber's putty or silicone caulk around the base of the new drain body. This will create a watertight seal between the drain and the sink. Place the new drain body into the sink hole, ensuring it's properly aligned. Press down gently to create a good seal with the putty.

If your sink has mounting screws, replace them and tighten them securely, but be careful not to overtighten and damage the sink. Next, place the new rubber gasket and washer onto the drain tailpiece. Thread the large nut onto the tailpiece and hand-tighten it as much as possible.

Reassembling the P-Trap and Testing the Drain

Reattach the P-trap to the drain tailpiece, ensuring it's properly seated and the slip nut is tightened securely using an adjustable wrench. Turn on the sink's hot and cold water faucets to fill the sink with water, then turn on the drain to test the new assembly. The water should drain quickly and without any leaks.
