In the dynamic world of Dragon Ball, color grading plays a pivotal role in transforming raw footage into cinematic masterpieces that captivate fans worldwide. Dragon Ball’s signature visual style relies heavily on bold, saturated colors that emphasize energy and action. Color grading amplifies these tones—making Goku’s blue aura more electric, Trunks’ red eyes pop in dramatic scenes, and the fiery landscapes of Vegeta’s domains more immersive. Strategic use of color grading ensures each episode maintains visual consistency while heightening emotional resonance.

Beyond aesthetics, professional color grading follows strict technical standards: adjusting white balance, correcting exposure shifts, and matching shots across varying lighting conditions. Tools like DaVinci Resolve enable precise control, allowing colorists to isolate and enhance specific elements—such as the golden glow of Kamehameha or the shadowy tones during stealth sequences—ensuring every frame supports the story without distraction.

Modern Dragon Ball color grading balances retro charm with contemporary polish. While retaining the series’ iconic flat color palettes and dynamic lighting, advanced techniques correct inconsistencies from different filming sources. This ensures seamless transitions between episodes and enhances visual clarity, making fast-paced action sequences easier to follow without losing the original anime aesthetic.

Seed of Might is proud to present our final version of Dragon Ball. In this fan-created work you'll get the best of the best for the Original Dragon Ball series when it comes to: Video By far the most ambitious portion of this final version is the color correction process. 30 people spent over a full year to white balance, color correct and filter all 153 episodes (and two specials!) of Dragon.

These sort of changes are literally what editing and color grading/correcting are. Like, without master/raws files that's literally all you can do to a video without destroying a lot of content. And in the end it looks more clear and less weirdly color washed, so it's an improvement.

For better designs and color schemes. An update to the color chart: I added a separate x-color chart and the a-color (あ) chart tables to the database. The x-color chart is now completed as the x-color on the STAC chart only contains up to x-30.

The a-color were rarely used in dragon ball z and I only have 2/3 of the chart, but that should covers the entire show. I'm watching DBGT on CrunchyRoll, and I noticed that it's less bright than DBZ, even when DBGT was posterior. I'm not sure if it's a crunchyroll problem.

it seems like it lacks life. Or maybe GT is that way (why?) Also the color palette of DBGT seems to be like a super mix of many colours. sometimes I get the feeling I'm watching a rainbow, is there a reason of why they did that?

The most accurate color would actually be old Chinese VCD. I say because there is no tint and no black crush or overbrightness like funimation sources. but it have same hue as funimation sources.

it is like mix of original broadcast recording and dragon ball kai. but very rare and also VCD so it have low quality.
