2-2-2-4 Wire For Sub Panel
The Southwire Company By-the-Foot 2-2-2-4 AL SER Service Entry Electrical Cable can be used in wet and dry locations up to 90C or 194F. This cable is primarily used as a panel feeder in multiple unit dwellings. The subpanel will be in the garage, roughly 20 feet away from the main panel which is beyond a door into the utility room.
I originally thought of using individual wires within a PVC conduit, but more recently found that SER would be far simpler. I'm running ser wire from my 200 amp main box in my garage to a 100amp service box for tankless water heater. I'm running the cable along the top edge of my garage around a corner about 30ft run total.
I was wondering how I need to secure this 2-2-2-4 cable along the top of my garage ceiling? This cable is great for SER & panels, it's less expensive than buying individual 2awg copper and the quality is high. The cable has some flex and can be bent but keep in mind it is an SER cable so leave space to maneuver it.
The electrical cable designated as 2-2-2-4 functions primarily as a feeder cable in residential and light commercial electrical systems. This cable is often used to bring power from a meter base to a main service panel or to supply a large subpanel in a detached structure like a garage or workshop. I agree that the 2-2-4-6 should be adequate, as all L-L loads can be ignored, but I believe you can also find 2-2-2-4 if you're still concerned.
Make sure it's also rated for interior use.
