Aronia Melanocarpa Low Scape Mound
Low Scape Mound aronia is a tough, tolerant, tidy little mound of glossy green foliage and a reliable deer resistant chokeberry. In spring, it's covered in hundreds of dainty white flowers, and in autumn, the leaves turn brilliant red to contrast with dark purple-black fruit. 'UCONNAM165' LOW SCAPE MOUND is a compact, low-growing selection of black chokeberry with a dense, mound-forming habit.
The foliage is glossy and deep green in summer, with red and orange fall coloration. A tough and adaptable North American native with a profusion of small white flowers in spring, followed by shiny purple-black, showy berries that will persist throughout winter, and brilliant red fall foliage. As cute as a button and tough as nails, Low Scape Mound Aronia might just be the most versatile, low-maintenance shrub you can plant.
This innovative dwarf selection brings multi-season appeal in a compact, mounded form that fits beautifully into any landscape. Easy to grow in full sun or partial shade and almost any sort of soil (even moisture is required in the South and West). Fruit is more abundant and fall color is richer in full sun.
Plants tend to sucker from the base, spreading slowly to form a multistemmed clump. From the Low Scape series, this tiny but tough dwarf shrub thrives nearly anywhere. Hundreds of white flowers in spring are followed by black fruit in summer and intense red fall foliage.
