Many folks didnt have access to Fels Naptha, one of our original ingredients, and wanted to know whether or not they could use Zote in its place. Zote and Fels Naptha are two popular laundry soap bars that have been in existence for well over a century. Both soaps are effective at removing tough stains and whitening clothes, but they have some key differences. Zote soap is more effective at removing grease and oil stains, while Fels Naptha is better at removing grass and mud stains.
This will allow your mixture to come into contact with all your laundry. It is important that you grate the bar soap very finely for HE washers. Fels-naptha tends to grate finer than Zote.

Guess I am the odd one then, I love using Zote in my homemade dry laundry soap. I am picky about smells, so that's what turned me off the Fels Naptha. I find it cleans just fine for us.

I prefer Fels Naptha for making laundry detergent. For some reason the Zote left an odd film in my washing machine. I didn't use the whole bar because it was so much larger by weight.
