Taco Flow Check Valve Adjustment
This makes it possible to use the heating boiler to maintain domestic hot water year-round. Flo-Chek open automatically when the circulator starts running. You can also use Flo-Chek in systems with multiple circulator zones to allow heat to flow only into the zones that are calling for heat.
The Taco 219 valve has an adjustment point on its cap, typically a small thumb screw or knob, for manual interaction with the internal weighted mechanism. Before attempting adjustment, shut off the electrical power to the boiler and allow the system water to cool. I have come across some that are tricky to adjust.
When the flow check is turned down too tightly it won't open when the circ starts and when turned up too much the flow check allows gravity leakage. The Taco Flo-Check valve, Model T-220, is designed for use in forced hot water heating systems. Its primary function is to prevent unwanted "gravity" circulation of hot water during periods when the boiler is hot but the space heating zone does not require heat.
Remove the switch cover and turn the sensitivity adjustment screw clockwise to increase the flowrate required to to actuate the switch, or turn the screw counter-clockwise to decrease the flow rate required to actuate the switch. In installing I opened the check valves throwing off the balance and now get no heat in some zones. Have Taco 3/4" threaded adjustable valves on each zone.
Is there some way to properly set the flow check valves? Can turning them fully clockwise turn them off? Is your boiler zone overheating when it shouldnt? Learn how to identify, locate, and troubleshoot Taco flow check valve malfunctions. To increase water flow on the Taco 218 Universal FloCher, turn the stem outward (counterclockwise) to open the valve.
Turning it inward (clockwise) decreases flow by closing the valve. Avoid forcing the stem beyond its stops to prevent damage or leaks. After a little reading, I unscrewed the top, hoping to bypass the valve.
It worked and there is now heat flowing. So now, should I replace the check valve? Try to clean it? Thanks! They feature a thumb screw to manually open the valve, and are available in a cast iron universal body and a bronze sweat in-line configuration.
A unique, re-designed weighted check on the 221 and 222 models features an enhanced seating and quieter operation on high flow systems.
