Draw a Majestic Stag Beetle: A Fun and Easy Guide for Kids
Hello, young artists! Today, we're going to learn how to draw a fascinating creature called a stag beetle. Stag beetles are known for their impressive antlers, which are actually their mandibles, or jaws. They're strong and powerful, just like the real ones! Let's get started on our drawing adventure.
Gather Your Art Supplies
Before we begin, make sure you have the following materials:
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- Paper (plain or drawing paper)
- Colored pencils or markers (optional, for coloring)
Understand the Stag Beetle's Shape
Stag beetles have a unique shape. They're long and narrow, with a hard exoskeleton. Their bodies are divided into three parts: the head, the pronotum (the part behind the head), and the elytra (the wing covers).

Step 1: Draw the Outline
Let's start by drawing the basic outline of our stag beetle. We'll use simple shapes to help us.
- Draw a small circle for the head.
- Below the circle, draw a long, narrow oval for the body.
- Add two smaller ovals at the end of the body for the beetle's legs.
- For the antlers, draw two curved lines extending from the head. You can make them as big or as small as you like!
Step 2: Add Details
Now that we have our basic shape, let's add some details to make our stag beetle look more realistic.
- Draw two small circles inside the head circle for the eyes.
- Add a line down the middle of the body to separate the pronotum and the elytra.
- Draw six small legs on each side of the body. Stag beetles have six legs in total!
- For the antlers, add some lines and curves to make them look more like real antlers.
Color Your Stag Beetle
Now that we have our stag beetle drawn, it's time to bring it to life with some colors! Stag beetles come in many colors, from brown and black to red and orange. You can choose your favorite colors or try to match the colors of a real stag beetle.

Table: Stag Beetle Colors

|---|---|
| Hercules Beetle (Dynastes hercules) | Black with red or orange markings |
| Goliath Beetle (Goliathus goliath) | Brown with black markings |
