A new sensor bus, IM2, has been briefly introduced as an intramodule bus in a multi-layered sensor network . IM2 maintains the advantages of both the IEEE1451.2 TII and the I2C bus, but IM2 is optimized for low power microsystem applications with short wiring distances between the microsystem module controller and the sensor nodes.

Abstract and Figures This chapter describes about the challenges and essence of designing communication protocols for wireless sensor networks .
This chapter describes about the challenges and essence of designing communication protocols for wireless sensor networks . The sensor nodes are densely deployed and collaboratively work together to provide higher quality sensing in time and space as compared to traditional stationary sensors . The applications of these sensor nodes as well as the issues in the transport, network , datalink, and ...

PDF Communication protocols for wired digital sensor interfaces
Digital communication : A digital sensor has an embedded digital communication protocol on top of internal microprocessor-based electronics. This design allows for more sophisticated communication between the sensor and the application interface to establish and access new features that optimize performance and e ciency.

These sensors receive unique addresses and can be accessed individually. Other protocols (NMEA & RS-232) only allow a single sensor on the data bus. NMEA is a software protocol that can be implemented on RS-485 and RS-232; however, regardless of the hardware, only a single NMEA sensor can be connected to a data bus.
