Get your headstrap, we cover it

You need a phone headstrap mount to record. Get this style: one with an adjustable angle mount so you can tilt the phone downward toward your hands. Straps that hold the phone flat against your forehead will not give you the right angle.

2Before you press record

Run this check every single time

Get these three things right every time, or your footage will not pass review.

Phone in LANDSCAPE mode Hold your phone sideways, long edge horizontal, and mount it on the headstrap in landscape. Portrait recordings are automatically rejected.

Headstrap at eye level, angled down The headstrap sits on your forehead with the phone at eye level. Tip your head down slightly so the camera looks at your hands when you work, not at the wall. Your full palm and fingers must be visible when you handle objects.

Good lighting If you cannot clearly see your own hands in the shot, neither can we. Move closer to a window, turn on more lights, or pick a brighter spot.

3While you record

Just do your normal work

No script. No acting. No showing your hands to the camera on purpose.

Hands in frame when you grab or release. Once you have picked something up, you can carry it out of frame.
Move at a normal pace. Do not whip your head around or move suddenly. Steady is good.
Stand or move around. Footage recorded while you are seated is not accepted.
One full task per clip, start to finish. If you are prepping a meal, record the whole prep as one video, not little cuts. Each task should run at least 2 minutes.
Do a real task with a real purpose. What you actually do should match the task you picked. No filler motion just to fill time.
Mix it up. Vary the tasks you do and the spaces you record in. Variety is what makes the footage valuable. Recording the same action or spot over and over scores low and may not be accepted.
Get permission first. Ask anyone in your shot, and your manager if you are at work, before you record.

4What will not be accepted

Avoid these flags

Any of these gets a clip flagged. Repeat problems after feedback put your payments at risk.

Portrait, not landscape
Hands out of frame when grabbing or releasing objects
Recording while seated
Holding your hands up to the camera to show them, instead of working naturally
Tilted, shaky, or obstructed view
Dark or poorly lit footage
Long stretches of one repetitive motion, like polishing or sharpening for many minutes
Recording the same task or the same space over and over with no variety
Recording in any place or around any person without permission

Footage we treat as fraud is never paid

Filming a screen or a replay: recording a video of someone else doing the task, or replaying old footage, instead of doing it live yourself.
Nonsense actions: repeating a motion that serves no purpose, like wiping the same bottle again and again, or sorting the same items back and forth.
Fake tasks with no purpose: sweeping with no dirt, folding clothes that are already folded, or wiping a clean counter without really engaging with anything.
Barely moving: sitting still, almost no movement, very slow motion, a mounted camera with no real interaction, or a black screen.
Repeating flagged behavior: recording in the dark again, or repeating something you were already told to fix.

Honest mistakes are fine. We will tell you exactly how to fix them. Deliberately faked footage is not.

What your hours are worth

Upload your clips through the Minute Data app when you are done. Our team reviews submissions and pays you for every hour that passes review, on the 10th of every month. Use the calculator to see your earnings.

How it works: every recorded hour earns your base rate. Hours you record past your monthly target earn an extra bonus per hour, up to 125% of your target. Past 125%, hours go back to base rate. This calculator is an estimate to help you plan. Pay applies to recording hours that pass quality review, in USD. Your contributor agreement and project brief are the final word on rates and payment terms.

Is my data and personal information safe?

Yes. All footage is uploaded through the Minute Data app using encrypted transfer and secure storage. Your footage is used only to train AI and robotics systems for our clients. Perle never publishes your footage publicly or attaches your name to anything that is shared. Your personal information is protected and handled in line with applicable data protection laws.

When do I get paid?

We pay on the 10th of every month for all of your accepted footage from the prior month. So footage you record in June, for example, is paid on July 10th.

How will I know how I am doing?

At the start of every month you will receive a personal performance breakdown. It shows how many of your hours were accepted, how many were rejected, the most common reasons for rejection, and the specific areas to focus on to lift your acceptance rate.

How long is this project going to last?

Project Pretzel is scheduled to run for at least one year, with the potential to continue longer. There is steady, ongoing work available.

Can I refer friends and earn extra?

Yes. For every person you refer who joins and delivers 120 accepted hours in a single month, you earn a $25 bonus. There is no cap. See the referral section below.
