Clearing the Air about Property Revaluations: Tax Value x Tax Rate = Tax Bill
You most likely received a letter in the mail within the past week from Rutherford County, which included a Tax Revaluation notice. This news shook the county, as everyone saw a large increase in property values. In Rutherfordton, values have increased across the board by a whopping 45% (you read that right).

We’d like to make one thing clear: while your tax value increased by 45%, we expect that tax rates will decrease significantly to help offset the higher values. The Town of Rutherfordton is currently doing “Revenue Neutral” exercises that calculate what the tax rate would be to generate the same revenue with the higher values. We will publish more information about this as we complete this process, and share more information about our FY24 budget as it is compiled. We want to balance a low tax rate for our citizens and providing excellent service delivery, including keeping critical public services and safety positions filled.

Town-Wide Easter Egg Hunt Returns

We're spreading a little joy, one egg at a time!

Our Town Departments will be hiding eggs starting Monday, April 3rd. Eggs have candy or toys hidden inside, with large golden eggs with a few extra surprises. Need a hint to get started? 2023 is the Year of the Trail!

If you find eggs, please collect the contents and the eggs themselves. Last year, our public works team had the extra responsibility to collect eggs that were empty, crushed, or piled together. Please do your part and collect all parts and leave our parks and trails clean!

Movies In The Park Returns April 14th

Join us for the first movie of the 2023 Movies in the Park series!

In partnership with Keep Rutherford County Beautiful and Norris Public Library, we will be showing the 2008 classic, Wall-E, which is perfect for this Earth Month Celebration. Before the movie begins, play with our Giant Chess game, which is created from (you guessed it) up-cycled materials in Kiwanis Park. Flyboy Pizza will be serving slices, and Scoop Rutherfordton will be serving scoops of ice cream!

Bring your picnic blankets, chairs, and family to watch Wall-E! As always, this event is FREE to the public.

"WALL-E, short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class, is the last robot left on Earth. He spends his days tidying up the planet, one piece of garbage at a time. But during 700 years, WALL-E has developed a personality, and he's more than a little lonely. Then he spots EVE (Elissa Knight), a sleek and shapely probe sent back to Earth on a scanning mission. Smitten WALL-E embarks on his greatest adventure yet when he follows EVE across the galaxy."

Main Street Park: Upgrades and Updates

Butch Melton Memorial

Butch Melton was a lifelong resident of Rutherfordton and worked at Dalton's for 45 years. Her passion for beauty was not only in clothes but gardens and flowers. To share her passion for gardening and beauty, along with the help of Dot and Lindy Abrams and the Town of Rutherfordton, our family would like to establish a memorial garden in Rutherfordton. This garden, will be located in Main Street Park beside the building where she spent many hours helping others feel and look their best.

The money collected from this fundraiser will be used to buy plants and planters to enhance Main Street Park.
