Craft Your Own: A Step-by-Step Guide to a DIY Book End Table
In the world of home decor, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of creating your own furniture. Today, we're going to guide you through the process of making a DIY book end table that's both functional and stylish. Whether you're a seasoned woodworker or a beginner looking to try something new, this project is perfect for you.
Gather Your Materials and Tools
Before you start, make sure you have all the necessary materials and tools. Here's a list to help you get started:
- Wood (we recommend using a hardwood like oak or maple)
- Wood glue
- Screws
- Wood screws
- Sandpaper (fine grit)
- Stain or paint (optional)
- Clamps
- Circular saw or miter saw
- Drill
- Tape measure
- Pencil
Design Your Table
First, decide on the size and shape of your table. For this guide, we'll assume you're making a simple, rectangular table. Here's a suggested size:

| Length | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| 18 inches | 12 inches | 16 inches |
You can adjust these measurements to fit your space and preferences.
Cut Your Wood
Using your chosen measurements, cut your wood pieces. You'll need two legs, two supports, and one top piece. For this size table, each leg should be 16 inches tall and 2 inches wide, each support should be 18 inches long and 2 inches wide, and the top piece should be 18 inches long and 12 inches wide.
Assemble the Legs and Supports
Apply wood glue to one end of each support piece. Attach a leg to each end of the support, using screws to reinforce the glue. Make sure your table is square by measuring the diagonal from corner to corner. If it's not square, adjust your supports until it is.

Attach the Top Piece
Once your legs and supports are secure, apply wood glue to the top of the supports. Place the top piece on top, making sure it's centered. Use clamps to hold it in place while the glue dries. Allow the glue to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Sand and Finish
Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges or surfaces. If you're using stain or paint, now is the time to apply it. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for best results.
Enjoy Your New DIY Book End Table
Once your table is dry and finished, it's ready to use. Place it in your living room, bedroom, or wherever you need a little extra table space. And remember, every time you look at it, you'll be reminded of the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands.
