Crafting Rustic Charm: A DIY Farmhouse End Table Tutorial

Gather Your Materials and Tools
Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary materials and tools on hand. Here's a list to help you get started:
- 2x4 lumber (for the legs and apron)
- 1x6 lumber (for the tabletop)
- 2.5" pocket hole screws
- 1.25" wood screws
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
- Stain or paint (your choice of color)
- Polyurethane sealant
- Circular saw
- Drill with driver bits
- Pocket hole jig
- Clamps
- Tape measure
- Pencil
Design and Measure
First, decide on the size of your end table. For this tutorial, we'll create a table that's 16" wide, 18" deep, and 24" tall. Using a tape measure and pencil, mark the following cuts on your lumber:

Cut and Assemble the Legs
Using a circular saw, cut your lumber according to the measurements above. Next, create pocket holes on the inside of each apron piece using a pocket hole jig. This will allow you to attach the apron to the legs without seeing the screws.
Apply wood glue to the ends of the apron pieces and attach them to the legs using 2.5" pocket hole screws. Ensure the legs are square and the tabletop will sit evenly. Allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding.
Attach the Tabletop
Once the legs and apron are secure, it's time to attach the tabletop. First, sand the tabletop piece with 120-grit sandpaper to smooth any rough edges. Then, apply wood glue to the top of the apron and place the tabletop in position. Use clamps to secure the tabletop while the glue dries.
After the glue has dried, remove the clamps and sand the entire table with 220-grit sandpaper to prepare it for staining or painting.
Finish with Stain or Paint
Now comes the fun part – adding your desired finish! Choose a stain or paint color that complements your farmhouse decor. Apply the stain or paint according to the manufacturer's instructions, allowing ample time for drying between coats.
Once you've achieved your desired level of coverage, apply a polyurethane sealant to protect your end table from moisture and everyday wear and tear. Allow the sealant to dry completely before placing decorative items on your new table.
