Create a Stylish DIY Round Dining Table for Four
Elevate your dining space with a custom-built, round dining table that comfortably seats four. This DIY project allows you to create a unique piece of furniture tailored to your home's aesthetic, all while saving money and gaining a sense of accomplishment. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you build your own DIY round dining table for four.
Materials Needed
- Plywood (3/4" thick, 48" diameter for the tabletop)
- 2x4 lumber (for the base and apron)
- Wood glue
- 1-1/4" pocket hole screws
- 1-1/4" and 2-1/2" wood screws
- Stainless steel table leg levelers
- Wood stain or paint (optional)
- Polyurethane or varnish
- Clamps
- Safety gear (glasses, ear protection, gloves)
Tools Required
- Circular saw
- Jigsaw
- Drill (with driver bits and countersink bit)
- Pocket hole jig (like the Kreg Jig)
- Orbital sander
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Speed square
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Tabletop
Begin by cutting the 48" diameter plywood circle using a circular saw and a jigsaw. To ensure a smooth, even cut, use a compass or a trammel point to mark the circle's circumference. Apply wood glue along the cut line, then clamp the piece together and let it dry. Sand the tabletop smooth using an orbital sander.
2. Build the Base
Cut four 16" long 2x4s for the base's legs. Attach them together using 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, creating a square shape. Ensure the legs are evenly spaced and square by measuring diagonally from corner to corner.

3. Create the Apron
Cut four 12" long 2x4s for the apron. Attach them to the base using 1-1/4" pocket hole screws, creating a square frame around the base. The apron should be flush with the top of the legs.
4. Attach the Tabletop
Center the base and apron on the tabletop, then attach them using 2-1/2" wood screws. Predrill and countersink the screws to prevent the tabletop from splitting. Ensure the tabletop is flush with the top of the apron.
5. Add Leg Levelers
Attach stainless steel table leg levelers to the bottom of each leg using the provided hardware. This will allow you to adjust the table's height and ensure it's level.

6. Finish the Table
Sand any rough edges or surfaces, then apply your chosen wood stain or paint. Allow the finish to dry completely, then apply a protective coat of polyurethane or varnish. Let it dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
7. Enjoy Your New DIY Round Dining Table
Place your new DIY round dining table in your dining space, and enjoy hosting dinner parties or family meals around your custom-built creation. With its unique design and comfortable seating for four, this table is sure to become a cherished addition to your home.
