Farmhouse style, with its rustic charm and functionality, is a timeless choice that adds warmth and character to any space. Let's dive into the world of woodworking and create a beautiful, sturdy end table that complements your farmhouse aesthetic.
Understanding Farmhouse Style
Before we delve into the blueprints, let's understand the farmhouse style. It's all about embracing natural materials like wood, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, and incorporating functional, simple designs. Think reclaimed wood, clean lines, and a touch of vintage charm. Now that we're on the same page, let's get started!
Materials Needed
- Pine or reclaimed wood (for a rustic look)
- Wood glue
- Screws (1-1/4" and 2-1/2")
- Wood filler
- Sandpaper (120-grit and 220-grit)
- Stain or paint (optional)
- Polyurethane
Farmhouse End Table Blueprint: The Design
The end table we'll be building is 18" wide, 18" deep, and 24" tall. It features a simple, sturdy design with clean lines and a shelf for added storage. Here's a breakdown of the pieces you'll need:

| Piece | Quantity | Dimensions (L x W x H) |
|---|---|---|
| Legs | 4 | 18" x 2" x 24" |
| Aprons | 4 | 18" x 2" x 3" |
| Shelf | 1 | 16" x 16" x 1" |
| Top | 1 | 18" x 18" x 1.5" |
Building the End Table
Step 1: Cut the Pieces
Using your chosen wood, cut the pieces according to the dimensions listed above. Remember to account for any wood loss due to sanding or routing.
Step 2: Assemble the Legs and Aprons
Attach the aprons to the legs using wood glue and 1-1/4" screws. Ensure the aprons are flush with the top of the legs. You can use a Kreg Jig to create pocket holes for a cleaner look. Allow the glue to dry.
Step 3: Attach the Shelf
Center the shelf on the inside of the leg assembly, about 8" from the top. Attach it using wood glue and 2-1/2" screws. Allow the glue to dry.

Step 4: Attach the Top
Center the top on the leg assembly and attach it using wood glue and 1-1/4" screws. Ensure the top is flush with the top of the legs. Allow the glue to dry.
Step 5: Sand and Finish
Sand the end table using 120-grit sandpaper, followed by 220-grit. Fill any holes or imperfections with wood filler, sand smooth, and wipe clean. Apply your chosen stain or paint, followed by a coat of polyurethane for protection.
Congratulations! You've just built a beautiful farmhouse end table. Enjoy the sense of accomplishment and the new addition to your home. Happy woodworking!
