This natural edge bench is handcrafted from Koa wood, a rare tree found only in the highlands of Hawaii. Koa is highly prized for its rarity and is rarely found outside of Hawaii. The islanders carefully select diseased or dying trees to cut, and once the koa tree is felled, it is shipped to a sawmill in the southeast of Pennsylvania to be cut into slabs.

The sawmill, Hearne Hardwood, keeps. 84 inches long by 20 inches wide and x 21" high. Features a light.

"Island Home" is a striking functional bench measuring 53" x 21" x 18.5"H. Crafted from a single slab of rare, endemic Hawaiian Koa wood, it features sturdy steel legs. The polished wood's rich, warm tone contrasts beautifully with its raw edges, showcasing Koa's unique character.

The Hawaii craftsmen of Martin & MacArthur create the Koa Slab Bench inspired by the designs of the George Nakashima, the renowned American furniture maker who was on of the leading innovators of 20 th century furniture design and the father of the American craft movement.
