In the confines of urban areas, an electric scooter makes great sense, but BMW's CE 02 may trump them all with crisp performance and excellent build quality.

BMW's funky little electric-powered CE 02 is neither a motorcycle nor a scooter, says BMW Motorrad product manager Sarah Hahn. Instead, she calls it an eParkourer, a reference to parkour, a sport. The CE 02 is BMW Motorrad's third EV, following the C Evolution (2018) and CE 04 (2022).

With a rated output of 6 kW and a maximum output of 11 kW (15 ps), the CE 02 is an urban commuter that is in the light motorcycle class in Japan. The power source is a lithium-ion battery, which drives the rear wheels via a belt drive from the motor. You get a rigid double-loop frame, high-end suspension components, and a belt-drive system that's smoother than a jazz saxophonist on a Sunday morning.

The CE 02 is powered by an 11 kW electric motor, or about 15 horsepower in old money, which places it squarely in the "moped with a PhD" category. Top speed? Just under 60 mph. Range?

The new BMW Naked Bike CE 02 starts at €8,500 in Germany, €8,550 in Austria, and CHF 7,700 in Switzerland in the 11 kW version we tested. For the recommended HIGHLINE package, an additional €880 or CHF 1,020 is due. The BMW CE 02 also features LED lighting, USB-C charging, keyless ignition, and regenerative braking for added efficiency.
