Kawasaki FS691V Oil Change: A Comprehensive Guide
Regular oil changes are crucial for maintaining the performance and longevity of your Kawasaki FS691V. This guide will walk you through the process of changing the oil on your motorcycle, ensuring you get the best results.
Understanding Your Kawasaki FS691V's Oil Requirements
Before we dive into the oil change process, let's understand what type of oil your FS691V needs. Kawasaki recommends using 10W-40 or 10W-60 fully synthetic engine oil for optimal performance. The oil capacity for your motorcycle is approximately 2.8 quarts (2.6 liters).
Gathering Your Tools and Materials
- New oil filter
- 2.8 quarts of recommended oil
- 13mm socket wrench
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil catch pan
- Funnel
- Rags or shop towels
- Gloves
Preparing Your Kawasaki FS691V for the Oil Change
Before you begin, make sure your motorcycle is on a level surface and has cooled down for at least 30 minutes to prevent any burns. Once cooled, locate the oil drain plug and oil filter on the bottom of the engine.

Draining the Old Oil
Place your oil catch pan underneath the oil drain plug. Using your 13mm socket wrench, loosen and remove the drain plug by turning it counterclockwise. Allow the oil to drain completely into the catch pan. While waiting, you can remove the oil fill cap to help the oil drain faster.
Replacing the Oil Filter
Once the oil has finished draining, use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Before installing the new filter, dip your finger in some new oil and rub it around the gasket of the new filter. This helps create a better seal. Screw on the new filter by hand, turning it clockwise until it's snug, then give it about ¾ to 1 turn.
Refilling the Engine with New Oil
Replace the oil drain plug and tighten it by hand, then give it about ¼ to ½ turn with the wrench. Be careful not to overtighten. Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of new oil into the engine through the oil fill hole. Allow the oil to settle for a few minutes, then check the oil level using the dipstick.

Checking the Oil Level and Finalizing
Wipe the dipstick clean and reinsert it, then pull it out to check the oil level. The oil level should be within the "FULL" range on the dipstick. If necessary, add more oil until it reaches the full mark. Replace the oil fill cap and start your motorcycle, letting it run for about a minute to allow the new oil to circulate.
Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle again. Recheck the oil level and, if needed, add more oil to bring it back to the full mark. Finally, dispose of the used oil and filter responsibly, and you're all set!
