I only need it if my habitat has a watery terrain. Still, do I need water purifiers if they don't? I saw most species habitats don't require water terrain, so I added the most expensive water container (that one that costs $300 and self-fills), but I don't know if those require being connected to. Some animals like the Nile Monitor require a water source.
The requirements are by square meter (quantity, not surface area). This means you can save money and space by building down into the ground. As long as there is a slope for them to get out, it doesn't matter how deep the pool is.
I started playing Planet Zoo a few days ago and I'm still trying to figure out a lot of stuff such as boundary requirement in different habitats. I already understood the barrier's resistance grades but I still don't understand when it says, for example, "Water >6m Wide and >2m Deep" like in the picture. See how deep the water needs to be for deep diving with every Planet Zoo animal and learn the quickest way to build water at the correct depth in this short.
My zoo has sea lions and African penguins. The underwater fish feeder didn't register for the penguins, who have a depth of just over 2m, so I wasn't surprised, thinking it must be 4m, but the sea lion pool is just over 4m deep and it still doesn't register. Problem is with animals that can swim but don't have water requirements, like Grizzlies for example.
Here's hoping they add a "Water can act as barrier: yes/no" or "can swim" note in the Zoopedia at some point. EDIT: Or something about water depth requirement for barrier. A 4 by 4 box is only 16 m 2 since it only measures surface area.
It is however 64 m 3, but Planet Zoo doesn't have any requirements that use m 3. The deep water requirement is confusing giant otters say 72m^2 of deep water required. But what depth is considered deep water?
