Cairo: ARIJ Organizes 4 In Person Trainings

October 26, 2025

(Cairo — September 2025) — As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting journalists across the Arab region and reinforcing partnerships with independent media institutions, ARIJ organized four in-person trainings in Cairo with “Mounath Salem,” “Al-Manassa,” and “Masrawy,” under the “I Will Not Stay Silent” project.

On September 20, ARIJ’s Executive Editor, Ibrahim Hamadah, led a workshop on gender-sensitive journalism writing for 14 journalists at Mounath Salem. The session introduced core concepts related to gender in media, editorial bias, and inclusive newsroom language practices, with hands-on exercises that reflected directly on participants’ writing. “Even for journalists already covering gender issues, this workshop opened new angles we had never critically examined before,” said one participant from the Mounath Salem editorial team.

The following day, September 21, ARIJ continued at Mounath Salem with an intensive workshop on peer-to-peer psychological support in newsrooms, focusing on coping mechanisms for media professionals, distinguishing between stress and trauma, and integrating mental health awareness into daily editorial routines. The strong engagement around mental well-being reflected a growing need among journalists to address psychological pressures linked to conflict reporting. “Creating space for mental health inside the newsroom is no longer a luxury; it is part of sustaining ethical journalism,” said trainer Ibrahim Hamadah.

On September 22, ARIJ held an advanced session on peer-to-peer psychological support at Al-Manassa, with the participation of journalists from different editorial teams. The training sparked in-depth discussions around trauma exposure, newsroom solidarity, and the emotional toll of digital violence and continuous conflict coverage. Participants expressed appreciation for ARIJ’s approach, emphasizing how the content resonated with their daily realities as reporters.

The final stop in Cairo took place on September 23 at Masrawy, where 17 journalists from the Economy, Politics, Arts, and Field Reporting desks participated in the workshop. The session stood out for its applied exercises and editorial reflections on how newsroom cultures can be adapted to include internal support systems that protect journalists’ well-being while maintaining high editorial standards.

Through these trainings, ARIJ continues to invest in building resilient, collaborative, and inclusive media environments, strengthening editorial quality while promoting journalist well-being across the region.
