According to the Director of Traffic Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Diing Reech Diing, the first accident occurred on Friday along the highway to Madhol Hospital.
The expectant mother, her husband, and their eight-year-old son were on a motorcycle heading from Wanyjok Town to Madhol Hospital to seek medical attention when a military vehicle belonging to the Tiger Division collided with them.
“What happened is that an expectant mother was travelling with her husband and their eight-year-old son when a Tiger Division military vehicle collided with the motorbike they were riding on,” Reech told Sudans Post on Tuesday morning. “The pregnant woman died instantly together with her unborn baby, while the husband and their son sustained serious injuries.”
He added that the injured father and son were rushed to the hospital and are receiving treatment, while the body of the deceased was handed over to relatives for burial.
Reech also reported another fatal accident that occurred the following day, Saturday, in Ayai Payam of Aweil South County. In that incident, a 65-year-old man identified as Wol Wol Apath was killed after being hit by a motorcycle along the Ayai–Malek Alel highway.
“The old man was walking on the highway to Malek Alel—the county headquarters—to attend to personal issues when he was hit by a motorcyclist and died instantly,” said Reech. “The motorist is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital, while the family of the deceased is preparing for his burial.”
The traffic police director urged motorists to adhere to road safety regulations, including reducing speed when using public roads, to prevent further tragedies.
“These accidents reflect an increase in road incidents caused by reckless driving, disregard for traffic laws, and the use of substances such as tramadol and alcohol while operating vehicles,” Reech warned.
He further appealed to health and law enforcement authorities to take strict measures against traders selling tramadol, saying the drug has been linked to several fatal accidents in the state.
