All cases against six youth activists during the 2024 Labor Day rally have been dismissed, legal counsel Mark Vincent Lim states in a post.
The activists were charged with the Marcosian Public Assembly Act (BP 880), direct assault under Article 148 and malicious mischief under Article 327 of the Revised Penal Code.
“Their victory reaffirms a basic truth: joining a protest to demand fair wages and job security is not a crime, but a constitutional right,” Lim said.
He added that the police officers should be held accountable for violently arresting the youth activists while protesting.
“This acquittal is not just a legal victory—it’s a reminder that the streets belong to the people. Protest is not a disturbance of public order; it is the people’s voice demanding justice,” Lim added.
