Shower Niche Shelf Slope

Don't let your shower niches look like unfortunate after. Does a shower niche have to be sloped? I build a niche for my new tub surround. I just framed it up using 2x4, hardibacker, etc But then I was watching this video and the guy said the niche shelves need to be sloped.

Do I need to rectify this? It's all waterproofed with redgard, I assumed this was a non. Ideas for how to fix this over-sloped shower niche? The gloss of the tiles, niche slope and slickening from soap/water all conspire to make this 4" deep niche useless at present.
