Equipped on the technology side with an even bigger engine (M30B32) and fitted with electronic injection, the power plant now generated 206 hp and was therefore the most powerful version of the BMW E9 model series. The very first official BMW M project was the 3.0 CSL. Affectionately known as the Batmobile, it was intended to compete in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) and was built to Group 2.
