The BMW G650X was a series of motorcycles produced from 2006 to 2009. The three models were: the G650 Xchallenge, the G650 Xmoto, and the G650 Xcountry. [2] The same updated Rotax engine first seen on the BMW F650 was shared among the three models.
Later, BMW got the engine from Loncin in China, while the bikes were assembled in Italy. The Euro-Chinese Connection For years, BMW had a deal with Rotax; the Austrians supplied the engines for multiple models, including the very succesful 650 single-cylinders. Then in 2006, the F-series thumpers were gone, replaced by three new G-series models: The G650 Xchallenge dual sport, G650 Xmoto supermoto and G650 Xcountry scrambler/dual.
The BMW 650X range came and went between 2007-08. They were light and powerful but early reliability issues as well as a high price saw the models sell poorly and then get dropped. After a pause which saw the 800cc parallel twins make their mark, within a couple of years the lardy Sertao and later G650G reset things back to the pre X.
