My I3 needed a new EME and Motor, which thankfully was covered under CPO warranty. (parts were over $10,000. alone) It is really great to have my i3 back and enjoy the warmer weather drive.

Hi all. So, i've been enjoying my 64 plate i3 for nearly 2 years now without a problem until about a month ago when i had a strange 'Drivetrain Error' pop up on the display and i could not get it into drive. After my initial panic, i got it into drive and all was good for another week or so.

I got a Drivetrain Malfunction on my 2014 BMW i3. It says only electric drive possible. BMW I3.

Check Control Message (CCM): "DRIVETRAIN: only electric drive possible, limited driving range, continued driving possible, consult nearest service center" is displayed. Vehicle cutting off after idling - if you're idling in your i3 and then put it into drive, but the system cuts out, this could also be a sign of the drivetrain malfunction. Smoke from the exhaust - this one only applies to the i3 REx since the regular BEV model doesn't feature an exhaust, of course.
