Proper maintenance of your BMW’s cooling system starts with knowing exactly where the radiator drain plug is located—critical for preventing coolant buildup and avoiding costly engine damage. The radiator drain plug on most BMW models is typically positioned at the bottom of the radiator, where coolant naturally settles. For standard inline engines like those in the E30, E46, and F80 series, the plug is often mounted on the lower radiator tank near the rear corner, secured by a simple threaded fitting.

In some cases, particularly in newer models with integrated cooling systems, the plug may be accessible through a removable end cap for easier draining during coolant changes. Proper positioning ensures complete drainage, reducing corrosion risk and enabling complete coolant replacement.
