Gameplay Basics

The objective of Kitchen Rush is to serve as many dishes as possible within the 15-minute time limit. The game is played over three rounds, with each round consisting of five phases: Preparation, Cooking, Serving, Cleaning, and Planning. Let's explore each phase in detail.

Preparation Phase

In the Preparation phase, players draw Ingredient and Order cards. Ingredient cards are placed on the player boards, while Order cards are placed on the game board. Each Order card represents a dish that customers want, along with the required ingredients and the number of servings needed.

Cooking Phase

The Cooking phase is where the action happens. Players take turns performing actions, such as gathering ingredients, cooking dishes, or using Action cards to gain advantages. The player board displays the available actions, which include:

  • Gather: Draw Ingredient cards from the market.
  • Cook: Prepare a dish using the required ingredients.
  • Serve: Deliver a cooked dish to a customer.
  • Clean: Discard Ingredient cards to gain benefits.
  • Plan: Draw Action cards or swap Ingredient cards.

Players must coordinate their actions to efficiently gather ingredients, cook dishes, and serve customers. Communication and teamwork are essential to succeed in Kitchen Rush.

Serving Phase

Once a dish is cooked and ready, players can serve it to customers by moving their player marker to the corresponding table on the game board. If the required number of servings is met, the dish is served, and the players gain points. If not, the dish remains on the table, and players must continue to serve it in subsequent rounds.

Cleaning Phase

The Cleaning phase allows players to discard Ingredient cards they no longer need. By doing so, they gain benefits, such as drawing additional Ingredient or Action cards. This phase is crucial for managing the player boards and preventing them from becoming cluttered with unnecessary cards.

Planning Phase

The Planning phase gives players the opportunity to draw Action cards or swap Ingredient cards. Action cards provide one-time or recurring benefits, such as drawing additional Ingredient cards, gaining extra points, or even skipping a phase. Swapping Ingredient cards allows players to exchange cards with other players or the market, helping to manage the available resources more effectively.

Ending the Game

After three rounds, the game ends, and the players tally their points. Points are awarded for serving dishes, completing special orders, and achieving milestones. The team's total score determines their success:

Score Result

80-99 Close call! You've survived the rush, but it was a challenge.

Kitchen Rush offers a unique blend of cooperation, strategy, and tension, as players race against time to satisfy their hungry customers. With its engaging theme, high-quality components, and varied gameplay, Kitchen Rush is a must-play for board game enthusiasts and casual gamers alike.
