There's more in Brighton aimed towards a younger market - trendy bars, clubs, etc. Bath had a slightly more middle aged and up feel to it I found. Both places are lovely, but more than a day I'd go for Brighton.

Brighton is a great 'get away'. You can walk along the pebble beach, see the boardwalk/pier; tour the Royal Pavillion. Bath is more 'historic'.
