This means the planks connect edge-to-edge but are not glued down to the subfloor, allowing for slight movement with temperature and humidity. The planks are also sensitive to surface irregularities; because they are relatively thin and rigid, any dip or bump in the substrate will telegraph through to the surface.

Pre-Installation Preparation and Subfloor Assessment

Slide the tongue of one plank into the groove of another, ensuring a tight fit with the tapping block. You want to verify that the planks connect smoothly without forcing them, which could damage the locking mechanism. The Installation Process: Clicking and Connecting

With the layout confirmed, you can begin the installation. Insert the tongue of the first plank in the groove of the second at a 45-degree angle, lifting the connecting end until it clicks into place. Once all full rows are installed, you will likely encounter the final row, which is usually narrower than the planks themselves. Carefully measure the gap, subtract the expansion gap, and cut the planks to fit using a sharp utility knife or manual saw.
