This was my first time taking my KX2 on a business trip. was staying in Santa Clara, and only had a few hours to activate my first Californian park.
The park is a nice spot for families to spend an afternoon and have a picnic. The views of the hills were lovely.
I set up under a tree to keep cool. I wanted to keep my equipment to the bare minimum, and so I used a random-wire antenna with just a BNC-to-wire connection, and no transformer. I used a small twig to throw the bare wire over a low branch.
Here is a map of the QSOs. It was interesting to see how there were so many more contacts from Utah and other western states.
After I finished the activation, I noticed that there were a lot of "squirrels" nearby. I noticed that the "squirrels" stood on their hind legs scouting the situation and squeaking. Then I realized that they were in fact prairie dogs! I have never seen one before, and they were freaking adorable! Here's some photos. Zoom in and see how adorable they are.
