Valerie had a horse riding lesson at the barn so I went with her and watched and also activated a POTA. It started off as a very foggy morning.

The barn has a second story hay loft, and so I wanted to throw a line from there to the lower level in a place that I could still watch the lesson. The loft is very old, and has holes in the walls, and if you aren't careful you can step on some parts of the roofing that will not sustain your weight.

You can see the yellow wire I tied to a post and threw out the hole in the wall.

Here's where the yellow wire landed and where I operated from.

And the view of the arena from my chair. Yes, it is always this messy.

Managed to get 11 QSOs to make it count, but it was very heavy going as the power supply to the electric fence is very close to this corner, and it was in operation. This meant that every few seconds you would hear a very loud pulse on the band. I could only put the AF gain on the KX2 to 20 maximum (out of 60), as otherwise the electric fence would be too loud.

Not that many QSOs, but I was happy to get Washington state, and I was fortunate in that a X-class solar flare happened a few minutes after I finished, that obliterated the HF bands.

Here is a map of the QSOs.
