Today I wanted to thank David, VA3DGA, for his kind encouragement and for administering the CW endorsement test for ISED (Canadian analogue to FCC). To get more value out of the gasoline, I threw in a POTA activation at a new park for me. Tiffany Falls would be my 49th distinct park, so just one more and I get a brand-new PDF!
I didn't confirm any solar flare, but it sounded like the bands went dead for about 10 minutes, so there was a lot of calling CQ to no response for a while. Plus you can also hear at the 19:00 mark in the audio, my frequency was appropriated and I had to QSY a few KHz up the dial.
Ideally I would have wanted to go and look at the falls, but the weather turned really rainy and so the appeal dissipated somewhat. Here is a view from inside the car.
In fact, it started a bit of a flash-flood coming down the mountain. So this was the closest thing to a waterfall that I got.
Here's a map of the QSOs, all 20m CW. Got 20 QSOs, with 5 POTA park-to-park in about an hour. Also, I got my very first P2P SOTA park! I was a little confused with WA4TDS, who said he was in Indiana, though his call sign comes up as Virginia, but perhaps he was traveling. The map gives his QTH as I have nothing else to go on.
It was good to get a fellow LICW classmate, KM3STU, Stu from New Jersey in the log again!
