Today I was determined to get enough QSOs to get the Kilo award for CA-6003. It was a little chilly at Coronation Park, especially as there was some wind coming off of Lake Ontario. But I was successful.
I set up with the Chelegance vertical, as I thought it would give me better performance than the magnetic loop I used the previous day. I forgot to bring my Rig Expert, so I had to trust the etching-marks. The KX-2 tuned it instantly, and so I suspect the antenna tuner was not really needed.
I brought the 30 AH LiFePO4 battery so that I didn't have to worry about how long it would take. It was nice to get back to the Begali Adventure key as well. I confess that I used the memory more than usual as the bands were not that great, and my hands were cold, so it was nice to put them in my pocket in between calls. It was about 9°C, but with the wind off the lake it was brisk. After a while I boosted my output to 8W, as I was getting cold.
Here's a map of the QSOs. It took me about two hours to get the 37 QSOs, so the bands were not kind, but I got more than the 34 that I needed.
