September 21, 2025, Beverly Swamp Conservation Area (CA-1312, VEFF-2551)

I wanted to get the most of my Sunday, so I drove to Waterloo with my wife to visit my daughter. The next part of the plan was to then activate a POTA, and meet Chris, VA3CJW, and have a dual activation. I got there first, and discovered that I had no cell coverage, and had also forgotten to spot myself on the POTA website. I was surprised to be able to hit the VE3RSB repeater (20km away), but was only able to get one person who was driving, and unable to spot me. So I walked around for a bit and eventually got a fraction of a bar, and scheduled my activation. If I had been smarter, I would have brought my Yaesu FT5D and spotted myself with APRS, but there were multiple failures in planning on this POTA. To add insult to injury, it appears I left my tablet on, and its battery was flat, and I had to use my phone. Using a phone to log with the KX2 and no table or knee-board was less than ideal. But it worked.

When Chris arrived, I borrowed his table while he was deploying his antenna, and that helped a lot over the balance the K2 on your knee, your phone on your other knee and having entropy prevail.

Here's the tree that I used, and sat in my Trekology chair.

Here's a map of the QSOs. All 20m CW, 5W.

This POTA was my 66th distinct park. It also corresponded to a Worldwide Flora and Fauna site, VEFF-2551. I am new to WWFF, and am in the process of registering etc.

After I finished up my activation, I turned to help Chris with his activation. He did very well, and I just looked for good stations to hunt on the POTA page, when I managed to get some data service. I was happy that Tom, K4SWL, activated with his friend Vlado, N3CZ, and Chris was able to get through the pile-up.
