I left Oakville bright and early on Wednesday Nov. 12, and drove about 850 km, and stayed the night in Beckley, WV. It was a long drive, but I still managed to run an Intermediate 2 LICW class since my instructor whom I have been working with, Evan, K2EJT, had a conflict. So I used my KX-2 as a practice oscillator in the Super-8 Motel!
The next morning I drove the 410 km to Black Mountain, NC, and met Thomas, K4SWL at Peri Social House, a hotel with a nice coffee/cocktail bar. After a nice coffee, Thomas drove to the Folk Art Center in Asheville, NC, that is right along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and so is considered to be US-3378, and is also park of the Mountains to Sea Trail, US-8318.
Thomas had an appointment, so I got set up in the parking lot and spent about an hour activating with a random wire antenna and the KX-2.
The bands were quite active, and I was hoping to get 30 QSOs, but when I saw the upload, I must have introduced a duplicate, so only 29 in about 70 minutes. All CW with 5 watts, using my FCC call sign, KK7TMS. Still, quite satisfying!
