Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our service (“Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide and information generated when you use the Service:
- Account information: When you register or sign in (e.g., via email, Apple, or other providers), we collect identifiers such as user ID, email (if provided), and device or platform information needed to provide the Service and send notifications.
- Content you submit: When you upload a video or submit a link, we receive and process that video or link to identify the content (e.g., movie, show, episode) and to generate a result for you.
- Usage and results: We store your identification results (e.g., title, season, episode, confidence), task and request metadata (e.g., task ID, timestamps), and, where applicable, a single still image derived from your video (see below).
- Device and app data: We may collect device type, platform, app version, and push notification tokens to deliver the Service and optional push notifications.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (including content identification and display of results);
- Store and show you your history of identifications and, where applicable, a still image associated with a result;
- Manage your account, credits, and subscriptions;
- Send you transactional or optional push notifications (e.g., when a result is ready);
- Comply with law, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect our rights and users’ safety;
- Analyze usage in an aggregated, non‑personally‑identifying way to improve the Service.
3. Video and Link Processing — What We Do and Do Not Store
We do not store your full video. When you upload a video or provide a link to video content:
- We process the video (and, where applicable, audio) only to identify the content and to generate a result for you.
- We do not retain the full video file after processing. We may retain one still image (a single frame) from your video, or a thumbnail, solely to display the result to you (e.g., in your history or in the app) and to operate and improve the Service.
- For links, we process the referenced content as needed to perform identification; we do not store the underlying video or media beyond what is necessary for that purpose.
By submitting a video or link, you consent to this processing and limited retention.
4. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access or receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- Correct or update your data;
- Request deletion of your data (subject to legal or operational retention needs);
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
You can manage your account and, where we offer it, delete results or still images from your history. To exercise your rights or ask questions, contact us using the details below.
5. Data Retention
We retain your data only as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, and enforce our agreements. For example, we may retain account data while your account is active; identification results and associated still images for as long as you keep them or as needed for the Service; and certain logs or records for security and legal purposes. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it in accordance with our policies.
6. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information:
- With service providers that help us operate the Service (e.g., cloud infrastructure, analytics), under contracts that limit use and protect your data;
- With third‑party APIs or services we use to perform content identification (e.g., AI or media recognition services), only to the extent necessary to provide the Service;
- When required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our or others’ rights and safety;
- In connection with a merger, sale, or other transfer of assets, with notice where required by law.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. No system is completely secure; you use the Service at your own risk.
8. Children
The Service is not directed at children under the age required for consent in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. International Transfers
Your data may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g., standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms) where required by applicable law.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top and, where required by law, notify you of material changes. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact
For privacy questions, to exercise your rights, or to contact our data protection contact, please email us at support@thecontentgeniusapp.com or use the contact details provided in the Service (e.g., in-app support or the email or address listed for the Service).
