International shipping means trains, planes and automobiles that create traffic and air pollution. Local shops buying local produce from local producers and selling it to local people leaves a much smaller carbon footprint. At the heart of every town and village across the island of ireland, credit unions recognise the importance of local businesses. This year we launched our powered by people – local business edition to help promote some local irish businesses that you may want to support this christmas and on into 2021. We can’t simply say ‘shop local!’ and hope to keep our local economies vibrant and healthy. set Here are some of the local businesses featured; check out the businesses we’ve featured so far: powered by people - local business edition week 1.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, consumer behaviour has changed, with more shoppers seeing their local food shops and independent businesses in a new light. Support for independents has soared as they showed their value in terms of their unique offering, first-rate shopping experience and convenience for the customer. This retail trend will not peter out – in fact, recent research by thoughtworks found that only half of britons (49%) expect to buy their food from supermarkets or major retailers in the future.

Shop local – that’s the theme of this christmas. We are supporting quality irish businesses who have pivoted, and perfected and polished their collections and service over the past 18 months. They are more than prepared to give local shoppers the best retail experience possible this christmas. The retailers at frascati centre blackrock are ready to get you christmas ready! most of the stores in frascati are long-established and family-owned irish businesses, with owners who really care about their customers. Frascati is the perfect one-stop destination for fashion, food and gifts, and hair and beauty salons. All the ingredients necessary for christmas prep are here, under one smart roof, frascati’s airy malls allowing for plenty of social distancing so you can shop in comfort.

We have put together a directory of businesses . If you would like to add your business to the directory, please email us: communications@northdevon. Gov. Uk including links to your website and/or social media pages. Please continue to support local businesses in any way you can.

4. You invest in your community

Keep money local—sales taxes fund our communities and provide vital services such as police and fire protection, street repairs and trash collection. “local businesses are more likely to shop with other local businesses, keeping money moving in our local economy even longer,” explains morgan harris, owner of green bambino (www. Green-bambino. gold Com), a full-service baby store offering functional and earth-friendly products. Local investment—local businesses are less susceptible to national downturns and more likely to work harder to stay open. “local ownership means that important decisions are made by people who live in our community and feel the impact of those decisions,” explains chris branson, co-founder of keep it local ok.

6. There are great deals to be found

Can’t decide what you want to give, but want to provide a number of local options? check out the queen city card , which features dozens of participating restaurants, drinkeries, shops, markets, hotels, experiences, museums, and more. Click here to buy yours and to see a complete list of participating merchants. In addition to its otr location, the columbus-based retro and vintage sports clothier, homage , also calls liberty center home. Homage always has great deals after the holiday, so keep your eye out to support local for small business saturday. If you’ve got any music lovers in your life, treat them to analog tunes courtesy of everybody’s records , plaid room records , or shake it records.

7. You’re likely to find quality products

The non-profit hui no’eau visual arts center in makawao is a wonderful place to find locally-made products. Set on a beautiful historic estate (pictured), the gallery shop features handmade gifts from more than 100 local maui artists and crafters. Kula marketplace , located next to kula lodge in upcountry maui. I love this place for its vast selection of high quality, island-made products. If you are doing an upcountry day (and you should while you’re here!), stop in. And last but not least, one of my favorite local maui stores: u’i gallery in kahului is owned and operated by artist rachael ray au hoon and features her vibrantly colored artwork, as well as many other handcrafted items from local artisans.
