Aura (オーラ, Ōra) is a natural byproduct that found through the release of one's ki. The aura of an individual is a general effect of ki being expressed outside the body, usually in the form of "powering up". When a user focuses their ki, it manifests outside their physical body in the form of energy that can interact with the outside world, displacing solid matter among different effects.

Here are just some examples of the auras within the manga for the colored pages. Kuririn, Vegeta, and Gohan in flight Jheese and Ginyu (in Goku's body) flying Ssj Goku fighting Freeza Ssj Vegeta and Trunks Ssj Trunks Ssj Trunks, Piccolo, and Tenshinhan Full. Some of them are accurate, goku has always had a blueish white aura when in base; vegeta's is usually purple.
(Except the namek vegeta preset has a red aura.) Usually you can tell based on the color of a character's ki blasts because usually it matches their aura. In one particular colored artwork (which as far I know is the only artwork to show the aura of a Super Saiyan) Goku and Gohan have green/cyan and yellow auras respectively.
