When it comes to the BMW 335i, performance enthusiasts seek more than just factory specs—some crave the thrill of unmodified speed, especially without limiter restrictions. This article reveals the actual top speed of the BMW 335i without limiter activation and what it means for daily driving and track readiness.
The BMW 335i standard top speed is 186 km/h (115 mph), but without limiter activation, the engine’s performance potential remains untapped. Without software-based power capping, the 335i’s high-revving B58 inline-6 engine delivers up to 382 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, enabling sustained speed well beyond standard limits. Real-world testing confirms that with proper tuning and driving conditions, the 335i can exceed 220 km/h (136 mph) on open roads, especially with aerodynamic enhancements and high-performance tires.
The B58 engine’s peak performance hinges on precise electronic management. When the limiter is active, it caps output at 382 PS to ensure drivability and longevity. Disabling the limiter removes this restriction, allowing the engine to operate at its full potential. This not only boosts top speed but enhances throttle response and acceleration, transforming everyday driving into a dynamic experience while maintaining reliability under high stress.
Driving a BMW 335i without limiter is ideal for enthusiasts prioritizing performance over regulation. It enhances high-speed stability, improves overtaking confidence on highways, and delivers a more engaging connection to the road. However, users should remain mindful of legal speed limits and vehicle wear, ensuring proper maintenance and responsible use for sustained performance.
The BMW 335i’s top speed without limiter unlocks a deeper layer of driving excitement, bridging factory engineering with personal performance goals. For those ready to push boundaries, understanding and responsibly managing limiter settings ensures optimal speed, safety, and enjoyment—making the 335i not just a luxury sedan, but a true performance machine.

I think the top speed of 335i is about 164-167mph from experience, 335d is around 159mph.
Not sure how the vert compares to the coupe though. I can definately see a top speed of 166-167, which is very close to my estimate. No way the 335i breaks 170 weighing over 3600 lbs.
Weight is more significant in acceleration than top speed, but it's still a factor. Limted to 130 / 155 depending on the car and tires. If you're spedo was showing 138, then your true speed was 130.
BMW throws a small offset for liability reasons.
