Originally published in 2015. Josh Estes, host of This Week's WOW, and I share a favorite space in the museum-Ryan White's bedroom in The Power of Children ® exhibit. Josh-along with many of our visitors-loves it because it's filled with toys from the 80s and reminds him of his childhood.

Ryan White was one of the first children to be diagnosed with HIV. Decades after he died, a replica of his bedroom was built in a children's museum. Ryan White is one of the youngest Hoosiers to have such a great impact on our state's history and is yet another amazing human who was taken out of the world too soon.

Because of this, the Children's Museum has chosen to honor White and recreate his bedroom. This allows visitors to learn about the life of Ryan White and keep his legacy alive today. The exhibit includes a recreation of Ryan's bedroom alongside replicas from the lives of Holocaust victim Anne Frank and civil rights pioneer Ruby Bridges.

Ryan's beloved guardian angel night. Giving a tour of the late, great HIV/AIDS educator, Ryan White's bedroom as preserved by his mother and donated to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Ryan Wayne White (December 6, 1971 - April 8, 1990) [1] was an American teenager from Kokomo, Indiana, who became a national poster child for HIV/AIDS in the United States after his school barred him from attending classes following a diagnosis of AIDS.

Ryan White's bedroom became part of a children's museum exhibit. After Ryan's diagnosis became public information, he and his family were harassed in their small town of Kokomo, Ind. It got so bad that they moved to the nearby city of Cicero.

Jeanne White, Ryan's mother, was able to buy a new house thanks to a loan from Sir Elton John, who, like many, became familiar with Ryan's. Ryan White died on April 15, 1990 after being admitted to Riley Hospital for Children with a respiratory tract infection. In 2001, Ryan's mother, Jeanne, donated the contents of his bedroom to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, where it has been painstakingly recreated as part of the "Power of Children" exhibit.

At the museum this week, Rachel Geith, 42, Indianapolis, stopped at the exhibit - a replica of Ryan's bedroom, surrounded by his most prized possessions.
