To solve this problem, you must learn and understand how the starting and immobilization systems work, then troubleshoot to the component level using BMW-specific software (ISTA, INPA, BMW Scanner 1.4) and a multimeter. It's like a garage door opener with rolling codes and if they don't match, no start. I used a SnapOn Zues tool to resync and that didn't work. I ended up ordering a used DME and EWS with keys from a vendor on EBay and swapped everything over, and the car started.

Just starting this topic in event anyone else runs into this issue. Basically I was discussing with Support on Skype. Problem: MSV80 DME with CAS3 from 128i E82 has the following errors: 2f4c DME: EWS-DME message incorrect 2f4a DME: Interface EWS (IMMO).
The engine control unit (DME/DDE) only enables engine start if a correct enable signal is received from the CAS control unit. The control unit is only allocated during initial programming of the DME/DDE control unit. Need help synching EWS and DME I swapped an S54 into an e46 touring and need to synch the S54 DME with the host car's EWS.
I installed BMW Standard Tools and first tried INPA to synch them using the Shift F6 function. This document provides instructions for synchronizing a replacement BMW engine control module (DME) to the vehicle's engine wiring security system (EWS) using a BMW compatible scanner. It lists popular scanner models that can perform the synchronization procedure and provides general steps for the process, which involves connecting the scanner, selecting options in the scanner to align the DME.

CAS-DME/DDE interface A secret key, protected against manipulation, is stored in the CAS control module and in the DME/DDE control module. From this point onwards, the DME and CAS control modules can only be replaced with control modules specifically ordered for each vehicle.
A calibration of EWS in the vehicle is not possible.
