SPECIAL NOTE: It is Rabbinic tradition for Jews outside of Israel to add an extra day to certain Biblical Fesitvals (e.g., 8th day of Passover or 2nd day of Shavuot). From time to time, these extra days will fall on a Sabbath day and alter the Weekly Torah Portion Schedule. At TorahResource, we do not follow this Rabbinic tradition, therefore, this lectionary is based on the Weekly Torah.

It includes dates for major holidays such as Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkot, along with specific readings associated with each occasion. The readings listed are primarily for the Diaspora and may differ from those in Israel. * * The haftarah for Shabbat Hanukkah always takes precedence.

When Rosh Chodesh Tevet or Machar Chodesh fall on Shabbat Hanukkah, the first and last verses of the haftarot for Rosh Chodesh and/or Machar Chodesh may be added at the end of the haftarah reading. Alternative selections are offered each Shabbat: a shorter reading (around twenty verses) and a longer one (around thirty verses). The readings are a guide and congregations may choose to or less from within that part of the parashah.

On certain special Shabbatot, a special second (or exceptionally, third) scroll reading is read in addition to the week's portion. For the Jew, "living with the times" always meant looking to the weekly Torah reading for guidance and inspiration.
