The Calendar of Torah readings follows a triennial cycle whereby in the first year of the cycle the reading is selected from the first part of the parashah, in the second year from the middle, and in the third year from the last part. SPECIAL NOTE: It is Rabbinic tradition for Jews outside of Israel to add an extra day to certain Biblical Fesitvals (e.g., 8th day of Passover or 2nd day of Shavuot). From time to time, these extra days will fall on a Sabbath day and alter the Weekly Torah Portion Schedule.

At TorahResource, we do not follow this Rabbinic tradition, therefore, this lectionary is based on the Weekly Torah. The Maftir and Haftarah The maftir is the last aliyah of the Torah reading service on Shabbat, which usually comprises the last few verses of the week's Torah portion (on festivals and certain special Sabbaths, the maftir is a different reading: see the table below). For the Jew, "living with the times" always meant looking to the weekly Torah reading for guidance and inspiration.
